Returns, refunds, and cancellations made simple
Returns, refunds, exchanges, and cancellations can happen on either store. This guide explains how SyncTec keeps the source and destination stores in agreement automatically.
Returns and refunds are where multi-store setups usually get messy. SyncTec keeps both stores in agreement so you do not have to reconcile anything by hand. Here is how each case works.
The principle
Whatever happens to an order on one store is mirrored to the matching order on the other store: the refund amount, the restock, the cancellation. Both the source store and the destination store end up with records that match.
Cancellations
If an order is cancelled, SyncTec cancels the matching order on the other store too, and stock that was set aside is returned to the shelf. You only cancel once; SyncTec handles the other side.
Refunds
When you refund an order, whether it is a full refund or just part of it, SyncTec mirrors the refund to the matching order on the other store, keeping the same restock choice you made. If you chose to restock the returned items, they are restocked on the source store's side too; if it was a money-only refund with no restock, that is mirrored as well. Both stores show the same financial picture.
Returns
SyncTec also mirrors Shopify's return workflow, meaning the request, approve, and process steps. When a return is started on one store, a matching return is created on the other, and as the return moves through approval and processing, those updates are mirrored so both stores stay in step. Return status changes flow from the source store to the destination store.
Exchanges
If a customer exchanges an item for a different one, SyncTec accounts for the swapped item's stock on the source store's side so inventory stays correct. Because Shopify creates some of the exchange details a moment after the refund, SyncTec waits briefly and then reconciles the stock automatically. You do not need to do anything.
What you need to do
In almost every case, just handle the return or refund normally in Shopify on whichever store it came up on. SyncTec takes care of mirroring it to the other store. You do not process the same refund twice, and you do not have to log into the other store.
A limitation to keep in mind
As with fulfillment, partial refunds update the order's overall status label but are not mirrored item by item. Full refunds and restocks mirror precisely.
